GEORGE TOWN, Jun 6 – A car yesterday crashed into a 24-hour popular nasi kandar restaurant on Chulia Street here late Monday while causing many people to run helter-skelter to save themselves. In the 11pm incident, a black Perodua Alza rammed into the eatery outlet, prompting the people to get away from their tables.

It is learnt that the driver, 26, travelling from Weld Quay to Chulia Street, was trying to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road. The vehicle rammed into a motorcycle parked by the roadside near the outlet before ploughing into the restaurant. Fortunately, nobody was injured. Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the driver is not drunk and this case is being investigated for reckless driving under Road Transport Act 1987. — PN
