625 Summonses Issued From Jan-May For Smoking-related Offences In Perak



IPOH, Jun 10 – The Perak Health Department issued 625 summonses resulting in fines totalling RM75,570 for offences related to smoking, including smoking in prohibited places from January until May. Perak Health, Public Transportation, Non-Muslim Affairs, National Integration and New Villages Committee Datuk chairman Dr Mah Hang Soon said most of the offences were committed at shopping centres with 275 summonses issued followed by public transport terminals (89) and playgrounds (60).

“Other areas included hospitals (44), government premises (28), entertainment centres (24), petrol stations (four) and airports (three) as well as cyber cafes (three). Meanwhile, for other offences, 54 summonses were issued for sale of cigarettes to the underaged, failure to display no-smoking signage (26), sale of cigarettes in open packets (14) and one for the sale of tobacco to the underaged ,” he told reporters here today. — Bernama
