MALLACA, Jul 27 – A delegation of four parliamentarians from the United Kingdom visited the Malacca State Legislative Assembly at Seri Negri complex, Ayer Keroh here, today. The arrival of Baroness Northover from the House of Lords and three members from the House of Commons, namely Sir David Amess, John Whittingdale and Chris Leslie around 11am, was welcomed by Malacca State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Othman Mohamad.

Also present were Malacca State Legislative Assembly deputy speaker Datuk Ab Wahab Ab Latip and Health, Sport and Anti-drug executive committee deputy chairman Datuk Ng Choon Koon. The delegation spent more than an hour visiting the State Legislative Assembly hall and exchanging views with Othman, Ab Wahab and Ng about the State Legislative Assembly system. The visiting parliamentarians were also briefed about the Malacca state including the State Constitution.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Othman said it was an honour and pleasure for the state assembly to receive the UK visitors under the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA). “They really love the bright and cheerful colour scheme in the assembly hall and the decoration we use that boost a good mood for our assembly. Functions of state assemblymen here also spark an interesting conversation between us,” he said. — Bernama
