KKMM Collaborates With International Platforms To Counter Fake Accounts

LUMUT, Aug 13 – The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia continues to act proactively in collaboration with international platforms to curb the spread of false information by closing nearly 2,000 fake accounts identified in the country. Its minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said it was undertaken in collaboration with the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social media platforms.

“But the problem of the fake accounts will be continue because these fake accounts are housted abroad. So we have to work with them and we have a good cooperation,” he said at a press conference after the officiating of the Lumut UMNO Division delegates conference here today.

Salleh said the spread of fake news as well as attacks on certain individuals made through social media should be given due attention because it gave a negative impact on the society and nation. He said if they are angry with the leaders, they open a fake FB account by using a pseudonym, criticise any leader they are not interested in, then delete the account. He also added that this is why almost 2,000 fake accounts have been identified and we have delete them. — Bernama
