KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 – Patriotism among Malaysia’s youth has been eroded by incessant provocation in social media, says a non-governmental organisation (NGO) leader. “Today’s generation are easily influenced and believe everything that are ‘served’ to them on social media and this has indirectly planted hate and mistrust in them of our leaders,” said Idealis Kebangsaan president Khairul Muzammil Eshak.

He was a guest in Bernama News Channel’s Ruang Bicara programme last night. Meanwhile, Ikatan Teras Minda Selangor chairman, Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Sazili Shahibi opined that the History subject should be enhanced to effectively teach students on the meaning of independence.

“History should not be a subject that required of students to learn it by-heart merely to pass the examination but should be more interactive,” said the Universiti Teknologi Mara senior lecturer, who also suggested that multimedia technology should be used to draw the interest of the youth. — Bernama
