SEREMBAN, Aug 30 – The excellent performance of the national athletes at the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 (KL2017) is something that is most encouraging, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. He said it was the best achievement ever recorded by the national contingent in the history of the SEA Games.
“The performance displayed by our athletes was most outstanding to the extent that there were events where we did not expect to win the gold medal, but we ended with the gold. We congratulate them and we are very proud of their performance as it gave a very big impact to the whole Malaysian population,” he said here today.
Although Malaysia had targeted for 111 gold medals at the 2017 SEA Games, so far the medal tally stands at 145 gold, 92 silver and 86 bronze. Mohamad also congratulated the athletes from the state who had represented the country and brought glory to Malaysia at the biennial games.
Meanwhile, Mohamad denied the allegation that PBNS (Negri Sembilan Football Association) had neglected the Under-23 national player who participated in the 2017 SEA Games, striker N. Thanabalan. He said Thanabalan played for the Negri Sembilan President’s Cup team and because of his good performance, PBNS had signed a five-year contract with him. — Bernama
