GEORGE TOWN, Oct 14 – Police today detained Penang Chief Minister’s Office information officer Wan Ji Wan Hussin to facilitate investigations into a police report against the man for allegedly insulting the Sultans.

Wan Ji, who is also a freelance lecturer and Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) activist, was detained at 2.40pm at the Sembilang Mosque compound here after Friday prayers.

Penang Police chief Datuk Chuah Ghyee Lye, when contacted, confirmed the arrest of Wan Ji and he had been brought back to Bukit Aman police headquarters. Wan Ji is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, he said.

Recently Mohd Al-Fateh Surau Committee in Taman Pauh Jaya lodged a police report against Wan Ji for allegedly insulting the royal institution and the sultans through his talk and another police report was made in Kuala Lumpur.

Wan Ji was charged in court in 2014 on charges of making seditious statements to insult the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah via the Facebook social website. — Bernama
