“Rhythm To Heal” A Platform For The Community To Share
GEORGETOWN, Nov 27 – “Rhythm To Heal” is one of the many It’s In Us campaign event organized by the final year persuasive students of School of Communications, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The event was held at Armenian Park, George Town for USM residents and local communities of Penang.
“Rhythm To Heal” which started from 9.30am to 3.00 pm focuses on the slogan “Chill. Unbox Yourself. Stop The Stigma” was conducted in an effort to ensure that the community, especially youths, are exposed to the importance of a good mental healthcare.
The event started with an early morning Yoga session followed by mental health tests, Laughter Therapy, Art Therapy, Speak Out Loud, Express Yourself, Acoustic Sessions, games, and so on.
Among the activities that was the public’s favorite was “Laughter Therapy” which was done to relieve stress and “Art Therapy” in which the counselor that is in charge aims to help the participants understand themselves through their paintings.
“Speak Out Loud” and “Express Yourself” were activities that gave people the opportunity and platform to share their thoughts and experiences about mental health and to give individuals the opportunity to express their feelings through poetry, monologues, songs and in any form of self-expression.
“Rhythm To Heal” was also in collaboration with Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), USM which conducted mental health tests for visitors. According to Dr. Farris Iman Leong, AMDI Psychiatrist Specialist, the public were very open to take part in the mental health tests especially the youth.
In addition to that, he also gave consultation to individuals who felt that they have mental health issues. The event was also attended by the Dean of School of Communication, Shuhaida Binti Md Noor and Universiti Sains Malaysia lecturers as well as guests from outside of the USM community. “Rhythm To Heal” provides a positive impact on mental health awareness among visitors through the activities that was taken place.
In the end of It’s In Us campaign’s “Rhythm To Heal” event, project director Yong Sook Yan urge the public to attend the It’s In Us campaign closing ceremony which will be held on December 3, 2017 at UAB, George Town.
