‘It’s In Us: The Final Escape’ Wraps Up USM Mental Health Campaign
GEORGE TOWN, Dec 4 – ‘It’s In Us: The Final Escape’, a mental health communications campaign organized by the fonal year Persuasive Communication students from University Sains Malaysia, was happening at U.A.B Building here yesterday evening.
The It’s In Us canpaign, which run from September to December 2017, aims to increase awareness amongst youth regarding mental health issues, combat the sigma against mental health issues and educate them with ways to sipport those who are affected.
The peak event of It’s In Us is sceduled to start at 10am – 5pm. Activities that are lined up dor the day include a series of workshop as well as an art exibition relating to the theme of mental health awareness in collaboration with the USM School Of Arts.
The first activities to kick off is the “Squeeze Your Away, Destress and Relax” workshop by Miss Doreen Teh feom Teh Healinghart Centre, whi focuses on suitable stress menagement methoywhich can be insightful to the participants.
The next workshop, “A Journey of Endurance”, consists of a sharing session by former cancer patient Sukhveer Khaur who aims to inspire other through her methods of building a strong character after facing depression.
Besides that, other workshop activities include dancing and acting lessons by local celebrity Arja Lee and teaching assistant Halimi Bin Haji Mohammed Noh from USM aschool Of Art, which aims to teach participants the art of self-expression through dance and acting.
The closing ceremony was presented by the Professor Dato’ Dr. Muhamad Bin Jantan, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of USM on behalf of Professor Datuk Dr Asma Ismail, Vice Chancellor USM and the Dean of USM School of Communications, Dr. Shuhaida Binti Md Noor. — PN
