GEORGE TOWN, Dec 6 – The Opening Ceremony 3rd Edition Gosen Cup Championship 2017 was happening at Dewan Badminton PBA, Bukit Dumbar here this afternoon with the present of EXCO for Youth & Sport, Women, Family & Community Development, YB Chong Eng.

She said badminton is one of the popular sport in Malaysia, and the Penang State Government is very committed in developing all sports such as badminton, as a competitive sport as well as a healthy recreational activity among Penangites.

“The State Government has allocated RM60 million into building two new badminton complexes, one in Lebuh Macallum; a dual 8 badminton and a basketball court, and another at Sungai Pinang; which will be a 12 badminton court,” she said during the opening ceremony.

“Apart from that, there is also private initiative to build a Penang Badminton Academy costing RM22 million with 16 badminton courts and other facilities in Persiaran Karpal Singh. A RM2.5 million Badminton Complex comprising of 6 courts will be built in Jalan Bukit Panchor, Seberang Perai Selatan.”

In additional, she also said that the Penang State Youth And Sport ministry has supported and assist in more than 80 sports programs and event, including endorsement and funds, total up to slightly more than  RM430,000. — PN
