KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 – Coca-Cola Malaysia has invested RM1 billion in Malaysia since 2010, created over 800 jobs and reached over 200,000 customers nationwide. “Hence, any call to boycott its products will only hurt its local employees, retailers, distributors, suppliers, including other parties in the supply chain who rely on the company for their livelihood,” its Country Manager, Ahmed Yehia, said in a statement today.

He said although Coco-Cola was a global brand, its bottling operations were done locally. “Some individuals and groups have called for a boycott of Coca-Cola via the social media based on false information that they received,” Ahmed said.

He said the company did not support or oppose religious causes, nor favour one country over another anywhere in the world. “The global brand operates in over 200 countries worldwide with different political systems, religions and histories,” he said. — Bernama
