TELUK BAHANG, Dec 17 – The opening ceremony of Penang’s first water theme park, Escape Waterplay, was happening at Teluk Bahang here yesterday evening with the present of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his wife Betty Chew.
Waterplay is the second phase of the green theme park development has doubled the park size from 11 acres to 22 acres, and has boasts of 20 aquatic attractions, including the world’s first ‘Banana Flip’ which was designed in-house by the Sim Leisure Group.
Sim Leisure has taken the former PBA construction site of Teluk Bahang dam and transformed it into a natural playground by transplanting 104 big trees from various construction sites around the island. Its also involves planting of more than 1,000 new trees of various species to create the Penang Kampong theme.
ESCAPE has currently ranked the Number 1 theme park in Malaysia according to travel review site TripAdvisor. It even ranks ahead of Legoland and Sunday Lagoon. ESCAPE has also been awarded the Certificate of Excellence 4 years in a row since 2014.
