HUTAN MELINTANG, Feb 3 – Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s intention to contest in the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat is because the Gombak Member of Parliament knew he might be defeated in the forthcoming 14th General Election (GE14), said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The deputy prime minister said the Gombak MP sought to contest elsewhere in the GE14 because the seat he held was currently plagued with many problems, which were a cause of grievances to the residents.

“Perhaps that person (Mohamed Azmin) feels that his current seat will face defeat so he wants to try his luck in other places. I hope before intending to move elsewhere, please improve the services, especially in terms of basic facilities to the voters he represents.

“I am aware, he (Mohamed Azmin) is only fooling around. In politics you cannot fool around,” he told reporters after opening the 1Malaysia internet centres of Kampung Teluk Buluh, Kampung Selekoh and Bagan Datuk town here today.

However, Ahmad Zahid who is also Bagan Datuk Member of Parliament, said he and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak welcomed any individuals wishing to contest either in Bagan Datuk or in Pekan, Pahang.

Yesterday the Selangor Mentri Besar was quoted in the local newspapers as saying he was considering on contesting in the Bagan Datuk parliamentary currently being held by Ahmad Zahid in the GE14.

Mohamed Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, said however the matter depended on the decision of the leadership.

In the last GE13, Ahmad Zahid won the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat with a majority of 2,108 votes. — Bernama
