Flood Destroys Infrastructure, Disturbs Lessons In School
TATAU, Feb 11 – The flood, that occurred for the third time within a period of three months, has destroyed infrastructure and the process of learning and teaching (PdP) at a primary school located on the bank of Sungai Kakus here.
The headmaster of Sekolah Kebangsaan Rumah Keseng (SK Rh Keseng), Tatau, Anthony Upon said the school was first hit by the floods at the end of December, the second incident was in early January and the third time earlier this week.
“In the latest incident, the water level rose to almost three meters inundating the school compound, school furniture such as tables and chairs which resulted in the PdP process being interrupted. The rise in water level not only brought about destruction but I also feel that crocodiles could enter the school compound,”he said when met at the school today.
A check by Bernama at the school located about one hour’s journey by boat from Tatau Town found that the school compound such as the field, classrooms and teachers’ room were still under water following the spillover from Sungai Kakus.
Anthony said that following the latest flood, he had directed 145 pupils from the pre-school level up to Year Six to return home for safety reasons since Wednesday. — Bernama
