KENINGAU, Feb 11 – A sawmill which had been operating for the past 20 years was almost destroyed in a fire, here last night. According to a statement from the Sabah branch of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Penampang, the Kota Kinabalu and Lintas fire and rescue departments were deployed to the scene shortly after receiving the distress call at 8.36pm.
“The fire did not involve the building structure, only a heap of planks and timber kept at the store for the planks. The firemen received their water source from the fire hydrant and pond nearby to put out the fire which was placed under control at 10.16pm,” the statement said. No casualty was reported and the cause of the fire was being investigated. — Bernama
