GEORGE TOWN, Mar 9 – The 4th edition of Penang Fashion Week (PFW) for this year will be start from 14 -22 April at Gurney Paragon Mall here. The 9-day fashion event will feature 17 local & international designers, with more than 30 catwalk shows on schedule.
Participants include returning designers like Keith Kee, Richard Rivalee, Ranndy Goh and Micheal Ooi, Samantha Chua, while making the debut are Dennis Lee, Joo Lee, Chris Yee, Jasmine Phoon, Steven Chuah, Cynthia Ong and Raydian Chew.
Joining the shows are Gurney Paragon Mall’s fashion tenants such as Chow Tai Fook, Debenhams, ECCO, Lancaster, Focus Point, Cosas United, Hush Puppies, Akemi Uchi, National Geographic & Travis Hegel as well as Save My Bag.
This year will see UCSI University hosting their fashion design competition ‘Runway Designer Search’ for all the diploma holders from all over the country. The finals will be held on 17 April 2018 (Tuesday) in the mall’s atrium and will feature 10 finalists.
The top designer will walk away with the university’s degree scholarship. Apart from that, Equator College and ESMOD KL – The One Academy will take up a runway show each featuring all their students’ creative wearables.
The opening gala will kick off on 14 April and expected hundreds of guests attending the launch. There will be 5 different shows with 5 different designers during the night. They are:
- Mr. Jonathan Liang, Penang-born/Paris-based designer, one of the most promising stars;
- Mr. Kev Yiu, from Hong Kong. His designs are worn by many celebrities like Sammi Cheng, Twins, Myolie Wu, Ivana Wong etc;
- Ms. Illiza Ho, Jimmy Choo’s protégé, the familiar face of PFW since 2016;
- Mr. Carven Ong, one of the Asian’s Top Fashion Designer in 2009;
- Mr. Bon Zainal, own local menswear designer who’s constantly been featured in many international fashion showcases.
On top of that, this year, for the first time ever in Malaysia, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob Gold will be making its debut at the opening gala of PFW2018. This campaign marks the “largest showing of fashion designers in the world” putting SpongeBob Gold in fashion.
Not just that, Nig Baizura! And Mr. Hero Tai (a local Malaysia Born & developed his entertainment career in Taiwan) was also invited to PFW2018 to greet their fans at the gala.
In the meanwhile, Hunza Group Executive Director, Ms. Khor Tze Ming said Gurney Paragon had make use of the platform for charitable and social works on this year Fashion Week.
Being responsible corporate citizen and as a part of the mall’s on-going commitment to the community, the mall has worked together with 12 designers to design brand new attire for each child in a bid to bring cheer to the lives of children from the House of Hope.
On top of that, one of the tenants in Gurney Paragon Mall, Hush Puppies will also sponsor a total of 600 pairs of school shoes for the underprivileged children. Also present were the State Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang. — PN
