Malaysia Airlines Denies Launching Aircraft Tender
KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 11 – Malaysia Airlines says it is not in any tender process for widebody jets as has been reported by a foreign news agency. “Reference is made to the story ‘Malaysia Airlines launches widebody tender process, could oust Boeing 787 deal’ originating from Reuters. Malaysia Airlines wishes to make clear that the story is speculative and erroneous,” it said in a statement today.
The article, quoting an unnamed source, said Malaysia Airlines had launched a fresh tender process for 20 to 30 widebody jets that could supersede a deal with Boeing agreed during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s US visit last year.
The airline said there was currently no such tender process as claimed and that the memorandum of understanding with Boeing, as announced by the Prime Minister, remained in place. Malaysia Airlines would not be commenting further on this matter, it added. — Bernama
