PERMATANG PAUH, Apr 11 – The opposition alliance, Pakatan Harapan (PH), will announce its candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14) after its leadership meeting on April 25 in Kuala Lumpur. Its president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said the meeting would also be attended by all prospective candidates for the GE14.
“I am still reviewing the lists of candidates who will contest in the GE14 in terms of the characteristics and technicalities,” she told reporters after attending the caretaker state government assistance presentation ceremony with caretaker chief minister Lim Guan Eng here. When asked about the refusal of Penanti assemblyman Dr Norlela Ariffin to contest in Selangor, Wan Azizah said she had yet to decide on the matter.
“Our screening committee will determine the candidates who are fit to contest … wait until the meeting on April 25,” she said, adding that all PH candidates would not be screened by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. On Tuesday, the Election Commission set May 9 as the polling day for GE14, with the nomination day on April 28, while early voting to take place May 5. — Bernama
