PETALING JAYA, Apr 17 – Opposition Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar will contest Permatang Pauh in the 14th general election (GE14) while her mother and PKR president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, will stand in Klang Valley.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail the party had made it clear the candidate for Permatang Pauh should be from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s family as the seat, which has been in Anwar’s family since 1982, was a PKR fortress, The Star reported today.
“An announcement will be made soon,” it quoted Saifuddin as saying. Nurul Izzah is the incumbent Lembah Pantai MP, but PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil is expected to contest the seat.
Dr Wan Azizah, the incumbent Permatang Pauh MP, is also the incumbent Kajang assemblyman. Anwar is still serving his prison sentence for sodomy and will only be released in June. — PN
