Salleh: DAP Downplays Its ‘Chinese-ness’, Wants To Win More Malay Bumiputera Seats

KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 21 – DAP is downplaying its ‘Chinese-ness’ as it wants to win more Malay and Bumiputera majority parliamentary seats in the 14th General Election (GE14), according to Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

He said they needed to create the perception that DAP was not dominating the opposition pact or else that would put off the Malay voters. Salleh said that was the reason behind DAP’s strategy of discarding its rocket logo and for their candidates to contest under the PKR logo, he said.

“DAP itself admits that the use of the PKR logo to contest GE14 is meant to win more Malay votes,” he said in his blog today. He reckoned that as usual, DAP was going to end up winning more seats than the other members of the opposition pact, meaning that it would get to dictate who became prime minister.

“While PKR president (Datin Seri) Dr Wan Azizah Ismail may be PKR’s President, the largest number of parliament seats would be won by DAP and not PKR. So DAP will call the shots as to who becomes prime minister and it will not be Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he added. — Bernama
