KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 – The Malaysia Umno Grassroots Movement today lodged a police report against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who claimed the plane which was supposed to fly him to Langkawi was sabotaged by certain parties.
Its chairman, Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar, said his allegations, clearly resulted in anxiety among Malaysians concerning the level of public safety. He said the fact was that the damage to Dr Mahathir’s rented aircraft was due to technical problems and not sabotage as confirmed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia last Saturday.
“Therefore, I urge the police and the Attorney-General’s Chambers to investigate and prosecute Dr Mahathir under the appropriate law as it clearly raises public concerns,” he told reporters after lodging a report at the Sri Petaling Police Station here.
Zulkarnain said the impact of Dr Mahathir’s statement led to uncertainty and incorrect perception among the people against Barisan Nasional. Last Friday, Dr Mahathir claimed that the plane that should have flown him to Langkawi had been sabotaged by certain quarters.
According to a news portal report, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman boarded the plane to Langkawi from Subang before being informed by the pilot that one of the aircraft’s tyre had a puncture. — Bernama
