GE14: Peaceful Transfer Of Power Proves Democracy Is Alive

PUTRAJAYA, May 11 – The peaceful and orderly process in installing the new government headed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) shows the mature practice of democracy in the country.

Election Commission (EC) chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said EC had carried out its responsibilities fairly and transparently in the 14th general election held on May 9 as entrusted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V.

“The official results of GE14 had also been presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Hashim said despite various accusations hurled, EC had held firm as an independent neutral body to ensure the practice of democracy was preserved. He said the percentage of turnout for GE14 on Wednesday was 83.32% (12,299,514 people) from the overall of 14,940,624 voters. — Bernama
