SHAH ALAM, May 20 – Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, will issue an official statement pertaining to the status of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Mohamed Azmin confirmed the matter after having an audience with the Sultan and discussing his status as mentri besar for about two hours at the Istana Bukit Kayangan, here today.
This followed the announcement of his appointment as Minister of Economic Affairs in the administration of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad last Friday. “I had an audience with the Sultan today and informed His Majesty about the latest development.
“The meeting ended on a positive note and His Majesty will issue an official statement on my status as the mentri besar at 9am tomorrow,” he told reporters after coming out from the palace at 1.50pm.
Last Friday, Dr Mahathir announced the list of 15 Cabinet minister in his administration, including Mohamed Azmin as Minister of Economic Affairs. The swearing-in ceremony for all the Cabinet ministers is scheduled to be held at the Istana Negara tomorrow.
Mohamed Azmin, who is Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman and Gombak Member of Parliament, was appointed as Selangor Mentri Besar after Pakatan Harapan managed to retain power in the state in the 14th General Election on May 9. Two assemblymen speculated to take his place are Amiruddin Shari (Sungai Tua) and Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin (Seri Setia). — Bernama
