Phone Dealer Survives Despite Shot At Four Times At Close Range In Bukit Mertajam



BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 26 – A 22-year-old mobile phone dealer was injured on the right arm, shoulder and thigh after he was shot at four times by a gunman at close range at a traffic light in Jalan Sentosa near Taman Sentosa food court here today. In the incident at about 11.15am, the victim came out of Sentosa Corner after having breakfast with his friends to get into his Honda Accord to go home in Machang Bubok near here.

Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said when stopping at a traffic light in Jalan Sentosa here, a man with his face covered suddenly came out of a car and fired several shots at the victim’s vehicle before fleeing. The gunman, who was wearing a ski mask, got away in another car driven by an accomplice.

“The victim was hit three times in his upper chest and shoulders. The victim managed to get out of his car. After that, his vehicle slided into a Toyota Hilux in front. He was then assisted by members of the public into the food court nearby before being sent to Bukit Mertajam Hospital. He is now in stable condition,” he told reporters at the incident location here today.

Police are trying to secure CCTV recordings of the event and have asked eyewitnesses to come forward and help in their investigation. Nik Ros also appealed to smartphone users who had recorded the shooting to contact the police. Police are also trying to find the car which was used and abandoned by the gunman. — PN
