KUALA LUMPUR, Jun 5 – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has cautioned the public to be wary and not fall prey to dubious telephone calls claiming to be from the commission and asking for personal details, including classified information.
In a statement here today, the MACC suspected the telephone calls might be fake. “Following this, the MACC has received numerous complaints from those who had fallen prey to fake calls,” it said.
It advised those who were harassed by such calls to first obtain verification from the nearest MACC office based on the telephone numbers and addresses listed on the commission’s official website at www.sprm.gov.my
The MACC will lodge a police report on the matter and hopes the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission investigates the fake calls which have tarnished the image and reputation of the commission. — Bernama
