GEORGE TOWN, Jun 15 – The 9th George Town Festival which is an annual, month-long celebration of culture, heritage, art, and community will be held from 4th August to 2nd September 2018.
“We are thrilled to present GTF’s full list of programmes featuring major performing arts shows, from dance to theatre, as well as photography and art exhibitions, workshops, music, creative talks, markets, a film festival and more lined up this year,” said Festival Director, Joe Sidek.
“Coming to the ninth year, this has certainly been a labour of love as our team put together all of the shows, exhibitions and events with our audience in mind. We want everyone to have the best experience in George Town. And it has been quite a journey with the festival over the past years for I have seen it grow within the community and gradually with the rest of the world” exerts Joe Sidek.
Dedicated to George Town’s inauguration as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, GTF aims to make arts accessible to the community by transforming the city into a global stage for the arts.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow mentions that “it is great to see the arts booming in Penang. We recognize that arts and cultural festivals are part of an emerging global phenomenon and GTF is an important economic driver for Penang.”
“I find that it’s magnificent to see people connect through this festival as people will come from all over the world to spectate art and experience George Town and in all its splendor. Therein lies the human connection, in arts” said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. — PN
