IPOH, Jun 26 – A Perak Gerakan life member has urged the Gerakan Central Committee (GCC) to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) before deciding to leave the Barisan Nasional (BN). Datuk Siew Kok Kan said although the GCC has the right to make the decision, this was an important matter that would affect the party as a whole.
“I call on the leaders to adhere to the party’s constitution to hold an EGM meeting before making a decision, which is a set procedure. The decision by them (GCC) should be made rationally and not emotionally. Any decision must get the approval of all the representatives at the meeting,” he told a press conference at the Wisma Gerakan, here today.
On Saturday, Gerakan issued a statement announcing its decision to leave the BN as part of its aim to consolidate the party and members after the disappointment and shock that took place in the 14th General Election (GE14). Gerakan also said that it made an unanimous decision to leave the coalition, after serious and comprehensive deliberation, reflection and consideration on current political developments of the country post GE14. — Bernama
