PUTRAJAYA, Jul 25 – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today refuted claims that it had withdrawn the corruption charges against Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng. The commission, in a statement here today, said it had no jurisdiction or power to do so.

It said the matter is subject to the power of the Attorney-General´s Chambers. A portal, quoting a report by China Press, reported that MACC would likely withdraw the two corruption charges against Lim when the matter came up for hearing this July 30.

On the first charge, Lim allegedly, as a public official or Penang chief minister, had abused his position to approve conversion of agricultural land to public housing zone in Southwest District, Penang for Magnificient Emblem Sdn Bhd, in his own and his wife, Betty Chew Gek Cheng´s interest. — Bernama
