KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 – Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has been exempted from implementing the open tender process to procure programmes from local production companies, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said today.
The exemption was to enable the local production companies which had received the letter of intent for RTM contracts to proceed with their respective projects, he said.
“This issue came up following the directive for the implementation of the open tender for all government projects. However, I came to know from the local production companies that the concept or system cannot be applied to them.
“This is because there cannot be tenders for the production companies because the process involves film-making and so on. So, I wrote to the Finance Ministry for these production companies to be exempted from the open tender,” he said to reporters at the Parliament lobby.
Gobind Singh said his application had been approved by the Finance Ministry. “I think the letter has been sent to RTM and the problem has been resolved,” he said. — Bernama
