The USM 13thChinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration was held on the16thMarch 2019 at Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra (DTSP), USM Main Campus. Chinese New Year indicatesthe meaning of family reunion to celebrate this largest and important festival in Chinese community. Hence, The USM 13thChinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration is named ‘Ignatius Reunion’, with the hope that everyone can have a wonderful reunion with family members and celebrate this meaningful festival together.
The cultural night is officially launched by Yang Berhormat Mr Gooi Hsiao-Leung, Penang State Legislative Assemblyman for Bukit Tengah; Yang Berusaha Profesor Dr. Aldrin Abdullah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Development Affairs and Alumni USM representing the Vice-Chancellor of USM; Yang Berusaha Encik Zulkifli Che Hussin, Advisor of Chinese Arts & Cultural Secretariat of USM; Mr. Ng Ah Leng, representative of Hai-O Enterprise, the platinum sponsor of the USM 13thChinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration; Mr. Wong Jun Huan, President of Chinese Arts & Cultural Secretariat of Universiti Sains Malaysia(USM SKKT) and Mr. Hooi Jing Peng, Project Director of The USM 13thChinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration.
Various performances has been showcased during that memorable night, including Poem Recital, Chinese Orchestra, Sand Art, Sichuan Face Changing Performance and many more. Singers Ribbon Ooi dan Rice Ng rendered several songs, winning much applause from the audience. In addition, the official secretariat song was also launched in this cultural night.
On the event day, the committee had prepared a series of cultural workshops in front of DTSP. USM students and the public can take this opportunity to understand more about the culture of the Chinese community. Some hand-made decorations were displayed at the foyer of DTSP.
The USM SKKT has always strived to promote, preserve and pass down the Chinese culture for the benefit of the younger generation. Through this event, the USM 13th Chinese New Year Charity Gala Celebration committee hopes that the USM students and public will have a better understanding of the Chinese culture and help to enhance the relationship among the multi–ethnic, multicultural, and multilingual student community in USM.
