Monsta Asia Hosted “MonStar Awards 2019” To Recognize Key Student Leaders Across Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, November 26, 2019 – Monsta Asia, a growing start-up building industrial experiences of talent for universities across Asia,hosted “MonStar Awards 2019” on the 23rd of November at Connexion Conference and Event Centre (CCEC) to recognize Student Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) from various universities across Malaysia who have chased their dreams and received recognitions beyond academic setting.This award received over 300 nominations from 35 universities across Malaysia. 

It was held with the participation of inspiring high profile judges and industry players including:

  • Her Royal Highness Selangor Princess, Tengku Zatashah Idris, Selangor Princess and Founder of #sayno2plastics;
  • Datuk Nicol David, 8 times World Squash Champion Former #1 Pro Squash Player;
  • Syahrunizam Samsudin, CEO Touch n’ Go; 
  • Aireen Omar, Deputy Group CEO (Air Asia) Digital & Technology; and 
  • Dzuleira Abu Bakar, CEO of Malaysia Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC), amongst others.

Alongside with the award, Entrepreneur Pillar was also officiated by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development, Imran Abdullah, the Senior Director, Policy Monitoring Division. 

The Entrepreneur Pillar are one out of 4 power skills in Monsta Xperience Platform that resemble 4 elements of fire, earth, water and wind. These elements are associated with 4 crucial skills in today’s working industry scene which are Entrepreneurship, Project Management, Creative Arts and Technology respectively. 

MonStar Awards is one of the preferred platforms for students to create network, gain valuable insights from well-known industry leaders, as well as engaging with fellow Student Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). In this award, there were no restrictions for students to engage and talk to our jury, as we want to maximize the connections and network between them and our industry partners. 

To facilitate and support Student Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), TOP 10 KOLs will receive a money-can’t-buy direct mentorship from Monsta Asia’s Advisory Board, which includes corporate leaders from various industries. Among the members the Marketing Specialist at Axiata Digital; Syakirin Rosik, the General Manager CCG Media Prima TV Network; Desmund Cheng, Tiu Gi Gyn, Legal Associate Chooi & Co + Cheng & Ariff, and a few others. With great expertise in their respective fields, these advisors will add value to the KOLs’ ideas and assist them to pursue their passions.

 

The TOP 10 are Roy Haiza binti Abdellah (International Islamic University Malaysia), Chow Heng Yee (Universiti Putra Malaysia), Ygandran Lechumanan (Heriot-Watt University Malaysia),Toh Ker Ro (International Medical University), Aliza Lim Li Foong (Multimedia University), Nermesh Singh Gurdib Singh (International Medical University), Mathura Kannan (Sunway College), Jason Fung Jia Hao (Sunway University), Leong Yong Xuan (Sunway College) and Muhammad Azfar Firdaus (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia).

This initiative is also supported by the industry through their involvement as industry partners for the award namely Touch ‘n Go, Shopee, Photobook, CocaCola, AirAsia, Nando’s, Klook, Boost, MaGIC, BrioHR, Astra Baby and Rainbow Star Legacy.
