Lexis Suites Penang Brings Festive Chinese New Year Cheers To 8 Underprivileged Old Folks



As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, in conjunction with the joyous festive celebration of the Chinese New Year season, Lexis Suites Penang visited 8 underprivileged old folks from Blessing Home Senior Care Centre at Sungai Ara, Penang and treated them to a scrumptious feast. The old folk’s age range from 78 years to 94 years old.

Blessing Home Senior Care Centre, which was founded by a generous and kind hearted person named Rev. Khoo Wu Shen in 2014. He always had this passion to strive to do the best – for the benefit of the people and glory of God.

Instilled by his motto of ‘Love the Olds and Help The Aged’, the home which is an independent care centre has since then become a foster home for the elderly poor who are without dependents or abandoned by their children. The charity event started off by meeting and greeting the old folks and fellow guardians at the home by General Manager, Mr. Ben Ho and heads of department.

They were then feasted to a sumptuous Chinese New Year dome style lunch, specially crafted by our Executive Chef, Chef Johnno and his culinary team. The menu includes Braised Mushroom with Bamboo Pith, Wok Fried Sweet & Sour Fish, Steamed Vegetarian Sui Gao, Chicken Chop Meat with Fungus and Celery, White Bean Curd with Classic Bean Sauce and Steamed Pandan Rice. And with it being Chinese New Year, you cannot go without some succulent Peach Gum with Snow Fungus dessert, juicy Mandarin Oranges, crispy Fortune Cookies and assorted box drinks.

To add to the excitement, our Sport & Recreation team orchestrated simple yet engaging dance performances with the old folks, dancing along to the classical Chinese melodies and also played fun, interactive games with them. The old folks also get to enjoy sing-along karaoke session together with the fellow hotel staffs.

There are also an auspicious lion dance performance and special appearance from God of Fortune much to the delight of the old folks and fellow guardians. It definitely added a joyous festive touch to the program.

They also partake in the tossing of yee sang together with the fellow staffs, ushering in the prosperous Year of the Rat celebration. As the saying of classical Chinese sentence goes, ‘Huat Ah’, ‘Ong Ah’ and ‘Heng Ah’!!!

Mr. Ben Ho, General Manager said that ‘This is indeed a pleasure to see the underprivileged ones enjoying themselves very much during the whole program’. As the hotel team gears up to spread cheers to the less fortunate ones, we continue to do what we do best, by helping them in fulfilling their needs for the greater good as a whole.

As a courtesy gesture, Mr. Ben Ho presented angpows to the old folks and fellow guardians. Besides that, preferred contribution items that are most needed by the home such as shampoo, tissue boxes, liquid detergent, spray disinfectant, toilet bowl cleaner, cooking oil, dishwashing liquid, floor cleaner, rice, assorted Chinese cookies and box drinks were also donated to them. The program ended with a group photography session of all that were involved. It was indeed a wonderful and memorable afternoon.
