Kuala Lumpur, 14th December 2020 – MonStar Awards, the largest young talent awards in Malaysia recently hosted its third annual awards ceremony virtually for the first time, bringing a different experience to all its participants but one to be remembered. The two-hour long awards ceremony on 11th of December 2020 saw an attendance of more than 10,000 students, bringing together over 50 education partners, sponsors and members of the public logging on to its Facebook social media platform.
The MonStar Awards 2020 with its tagline of “Celebrate Malaysia” was created to discover young individuals and celebrate their diverse talents that goes beyond the academic setting. The ‘Student for Student’ community initiative aims to be the University of Experience preparing talents personally and professionally with meaningful industry know-how and strong networking opportunities. Staying true to its philosophy, the awards with 542 nominees from 50 universities and colleges were put together by an organizing committee consisting of students from over 14 education institutions across Malaysia.
Chow Khey Whey, from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) won the Most Inspiring Award by votes from the Malaysian public. A performing arts major, she has exemplified what it means to be an all-rounder living firmly by the mantra of ‘Making the impossible, possible’. According to Zhi Ee Chan, Founder of Monsta Asia, “She was a clear favourite as she showed consistent leadership and has positively influenced her peers, has enthusiasm and eagerness to learn and experience new things and also have demonstrated a high regard for values of integrity, honesty and respect in the way she leads and carries herself.” In second place is Muhamad Farid Wahid from Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and Ching Yong Qi from Universiti Malaya (UM) who came close in third place.

MonStar Awards is an opulent event; one that not only celebrates youth but also motivates us to want to do better for ourselves and for our society.” remarked Ching Yong Qi from Universiti Malaya (UM).
Throughout the night, viewers were also eager to find out who the winners were for the highly anticipated Top 10 Young Talent Awards. Members of the jury namely Datuk Nicol David, eight-time world squash champion, Mac Chung Lynn, Group CEO of Nando’s Malaysia and Singapore, Datin Vivy Yusof, Co-founder of Fashion Valet and The dUCk Group, YAM Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Princess of Selangor and founder of #SayNo2Plastic, Shazmi Ali, Country HR Director of Shell Malaysia and George Ang, CEO of A&W Malaysia graced the ceremony by selecting and announcing the winners.

Sugumar from SAITO University College, Dafuallah Esameldien Dafaallah from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Jerin Thomas George from Curtin University Malaysia, Yap Khim Wen (Sara) from HELP University, Kavitha Sivapragasam from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Nurin Miza Afiqah bt Andrie Dazlee from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Lee Kwang Yau from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Ching Yong Qi from Universiti Malaya (UM).
The awards ceremony then continued to recognise the efforts of 3 outstanding students who showed significant growth throughout their year-long stint with Monsta Xperience. The Monsta Xperience yearly exclusive passport provides students a platform to explore opportunities beyond the classroom to gain XP points where they’ll be able to accelerate their personal growth and pave the way for their future. The Top 3 Monsta Ranger Awards were awarded to Mohamad Danniel Iskandar from Taylor’s University (he was the Master of Ceremony for the MonStar Awards 2020), Emily Ng Kah Heng from Sunway University and Arivaasaran a/l M Arjunan from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
All award winners will receive a Certificate endorsed by Monsta Asia, members of the jury and supported by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MoHE) and the Department of Higher Education Malaysia (JPT). They will also receive valuable feedback from the judges, media exposure, a special edition Top 10 trophy, Nando’s vouchers worth RM100, Monsta Annual Pass worth RM120 to access potential work and internship opportunities and Mindvalley Academy ALL Access pass to upskill and reskill their personal & professional growth.
