GEORGE TOWN, Feb 7 – The 130-Year-Old Biggest Buddhist Temple, Kek Lok Si Temple in Air Itam, Penang, Malaysia was transformed into a magical fairyland as ten thousands of colourful LED lights set the temple complex in Southeast Asia aglow for Chinese New Year Celebration this Friday. At exactly 7:50pm, the traditional Chinese lanterns and thousands of Modern LED lightings were switched on simultaneously.
To cap the magnificent evening with a spectacular display of fireworks lit the skies after the speech by Penang Chief Minister, YAB Chow Kon Yeow and the temple monks led devotees in a prayer session. At the same time, Kek Lok Si had broadcasted live the of the Lighting Up Ceremony on their Facebook as public can stay at home and experience it.
Seen as a symbol of peace, luck and prosperity, the lights at Kek Lok Si will be switched on daily until March 11, 2021. Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, the temple will not be open to the public.
