GROEGT TOWN, FEB 20 – The Chief Minister has directed the Federal Land and Mines Department and State Land authorities to meet on Monday over the eviction notice served to affected residents to make way for the new Penang police headquarters project. The State Government reiterates that under the current State planning guidelines, any developer of public or private project must resolve the resettlement issue first before works are allowed to commence.

The Federal Land and Mines Department has to comply with this requirement before eviction can take place, and at this juncture they must prove to the State Government that they have resolved the relocation issue. On Monday, the State government will not hesitate to direct the Land and Mines Department to stop any eviction pending the resolution of the relocation of existing houses and places of worship belonging to the affected residents.
