GEORGE TOWN, April 30 – Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) together with Disted College have successfully organized a career and job placement fair on last Friday, 22 April 2022. With the current employment rate, this career fair aims to help more employers to hiring more talents and to prepare them for the work force at an earlier stage. 

The main objectives of this career fair are to to attract talents and retain them in Penang.  It is also allowed Youth to get closer with the employers so that they can understand what the expectation and skills required from them.

Some of the objectives include learning the significance of following up with potential employers and it is also important how Youth can deliver an elevator speech to their future employers. This career fair has attracted 15 participating companies and agencies and including federal agency, which is PERKESO and state agency.

PYDC and Invest Penang and organizations from the various fields in the areas of Hospitality, Finance and Accounting, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Customer Services and Marketing, Sales advisory where there is vast range of choices for our Youth on their career journey.

Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) who is also the co-organizer for this career fair has invited companies such as FLEX, Greatech Technology and Big Domain, industrial partners who are currently aggressively hiring young talents especially in engineering, IT, and computing fields. Including others, such as Teleperformance, Grand Thornton, Toastmaster International and many others have made the event a successful one.

Penang State agency, Invest Penang has also joined as one of the Exhibitors collaborating with PYDC to close the job gap. Furthermore, PERKERSO shared about the job incentives offered by our government, as well as recommendations for self-preparation prior to attending an interview, whether virtual or in person.

With over 350 MNCs and over 50 GBS businesses operating in Penang, the employment sector has remained vibrant and as a popular destination for technology-focused investors. The entire industrial investment value in 2021, according to reports, is expected to be around $1.5 billion.

Penang State EXCO for Youth and Sports, YB Soon Lip Chee urged students to stay in Penang, and to serve Penang after graduation. YB Soon has also mentioned about We Want You Hiring portal where it has hosted more than 500 employers at this time and over thousands of vacancies that is available. He hopes that this Career Fair are helping those with job hunting especially Youth.

Besides PYDC has also conducted a few open interviews in conjunction with Youth Centre Opening Ceremony where the successful rate of hiring from invited companies are more than 20%. According to PYDC General Manager, Dr Gwee Sai Ling – PYDC is the place for our Youth to grow their talents and skills through many program that is created and established with Youth in mind.
