KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 – Meeting of the Select Committee to Consider the Constitution (Amendment) (No.3) Bill 2022 and on the Provision for the Prohibition of Members of the House of Representatives to Change Parties No. 6 of 2022 has agreed and finalized the draft of the Prohibition of Members Bill. Dewan Rakyat Bertukar Parti (Amendment) (No. 3) 2022 to be tabled and debated in the Dewan Rakyat.

In this regard, five (5) policy questions were raised by the Cabinet during the meeting on 1 June 2022 and were commented and answered by the Parliamentary Select Committee in yesterday’s meeting (7 June 2022). The feedback of the Parliamentary Select Committee on this matter will be brought back as a Cabinet Note in the next Cabinet meeting.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar informed that the last meeting will be held in the near future to confirm the Statement of the Select Committee.

The Select Committee also unanimously agreed to request and recommend to the YAB Prime Minister in accordance with Meeting Rule 11 (3), Rules of the House of Representatives to hold a Special Meeting of Parliament in the first week of July 2022 as waiting for the scheduled meeting from July 18 until August 4.

In general, the Select Committee has successfully implemented the terms of reference as proposed on 11 April 2022. This achievement is the result of a joint commitment by all committee members with the strong support of the Parliament of Malaysia, Legal Affairs Division, Prime Minister’s Department and Attorney General’s Chambers.
