GEORGE TOWN, June 11 – As a token of appreciation to the Penang State Scout Federation of Malaysia (PPMNPP) for the close cooperation and friendship between the 2 countries, in conjunction with the Star, Medal and Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the Malaysian Scout Federation of Penang State Year 2022 which took place on 5 June 2022 in The TOP, KOMTAR, The Right Honorable Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang and President of the Penang State Scout Council has received the “International Friendship Award-”, one of the highest friendship awards presented by the Korea Scouts Association (KSA).

The award was presented by Dr. Simon Hang-bock Rhee, Former Chairman of the World Organization of Scout Movement (WOSM) cum Chief Commissioner of the National Scouts of the Korea Scouts Association (KSA). YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow said that this award is a sign of friendship showing the close relationship between the two countries through the Scout movement and I am confident that the close relationship will benefit and create a positive platform for the youth in Penang.

Currently, the youths in Penang, especially the scouts in Penang, can interact and share knowledge with the youths of Korea and I believe the cooperation will have a great impact on the development of Penang,” he said. said YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow during the reception. While at the award ceremony, Dr. Simon Hang-bock Rhee has invited YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow to Korea to participate in the 25th World Scouts Jamboree which will take place from 1st to 12th August 2023 in Saemangeum, Jeollabuk-do Province, Korea.

The World Scouts Jamboree or World Scout Jamboree is a program that takes place once every 4 years and is the largest World Scout program that will be attended by 45 thousand scout members around the world. Apart from YAB Chow Kon Yeow, the Honorable Soon Lip Chee, Penang State Youth and Sports EXCO and Deputy President of the Penang State Scout Council also received the Korea Scouts Association (KSA) International Friendship Award.

The ceremony was also attended by Maj. Jen. Prof. Dato ’Dr. Mohd Zin bin Bidin (B), Acting Chief National Scout, Tuan Haji Nasaruddin bin Haji Shamsuddin, Deputy Chief Commissioner of National Scouts, Encik Zulkafli bin Kamarudin, Chief Commissioner of Penang State Scouts, Encik Lee Teong Leon, Chairman of the Penang State Scout Council and Mr. Heng Soo Peng, Deputy Chief Commissioner of the State of Penang.
