BREAKING: PUTRAJAYA, August 23 – The Federal Court upholds the Former Prime Minister Najib Razak’s conviction and sentence in the SRC International case, which means Najib Razak, Member Parliament of Pekan is set to serve his jail term immediately. A five-judge panel chaired by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat rejected the former prime minister’s appeal to set aside the conviction and sentence handed down by the High Court on 28 July 2020.
High Court judge at the time, Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, who is now a Court of Appeal judge, sentenced the Pekan Member of Parliament to 10 years in prison for each of the three CBT charges for embezzling RM27 million, RM5 million and RM10 million respectively from SRC funds. Najib, 69, on 8 Dec 2021 failed to set aside the decision after the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court’s decision.
