KUALA LUMPUR, September 6 – Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s status as Pekan Member of Parliament still remains as of today. The Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun said, the pardon petition was filed by Najib in accordance with Article 42 of the Federal Constitution on September 2, which is within 14 days from the date of the Federal Court’s decision.

Therefore, he explained, the effect of Najib’s disqualification as a member of Parliament will only start once the pardon petition is complete. “This means that the status of the Honorable Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as Pekan Member of Parliament is currently unchanged and will only be finalized when the pardon petition is settled, he said in a statement on Monday.
