BAYAN LEPAS, September 14 – The World Congress on Innovation and Technology 2022 (WCIT 2022) that taken place in Penang kick off from 13- 15 September 2022 is on the run to enter the Malaysia Book of Records. PIKOM, the organizer of The WCIT 2022 has announced that they have over-achieved the target of delegates with more than 200 speakers and 4,000 registered participants including Industry Visionaries, Government Officials, Captains of Industry, Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Academicians and Media from over 60 countries.
Yesterday’s Opening Ceremony commenced with one of the world’s largest and most prestigious innovation and technology summits also featured more than 500 technology brands, occupying an exhibition space exceeding 6,500-square-metres. At the Opening Ceremony, Dr. Sean Seah, Chairman of PIKOM and Organizing Chairman of WCIT 2022, proudly said, “This highly complex congress serves as a testament to the dynamic nature of WCIT, with multiple global stakeholders coming together to make this edition a resounding success.
Often referred to as the “Olympics of the global Information, Communications and Technology Industry”, WITSA’s 26th Edition of the WCIT was hosted in Penang. The congress was officiated by His Excellency Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak, Governor of Penang; the Right Honourable Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob, Prime Minister of Malaysia; and the Right Honourable Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang this morning at SETIA Spice Convention Centre.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has expressed his confidence that the country has the ability to achieve the RM 70 Billion Digital Investment by 2025 which is in line with the Digital Economy Blueprint. Malaysia play a very important role as a Digital Investment Hub in Asean with World Class Infrastructure, Digital Ecosystem and Skilled Digital Talent, Malaysia can also be the Digital Investment destination in Asean,” he said during the officiate of World Congress on Innovation & Technology (WCIT 2022).
The MSC Malaysia initiative which was launched back in 1996 had attracted the Digital Investments that worth RM 384 Billion, generated 180,000 Jobs and RM 588 Billion in revenue. MSC Malaysia has been rebrand as Malaysia Digital (MD) after 26 years and which will transform the National Digital Ecosystem. Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Malaysia Digital (MD) was launch back in July and it had manage to attract Direct Digital Investment that worth RM 52 Billion in two months time.
The investment were from 28 Foreign Companies involving in Data Centres, IT Services, Technological Creative Content and Global Business Services which created more than 6,000 High Value Jobs with total of RM 4.76 Billion up to August 24, 2022. The three-day congress will present four stages that involves business forums, roundtable discussions, interactive panels and keynote speakers, centred around topics such as new innovative technology, NFTs, Smart City development, SpaceTech, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, 5G, EduTech, Blockchain, HealthTech, E-Commerce and the furtherance of ASEAN’s economic growth post-pandemic.
Delegates, speakers, partners and visitors of WCIT 2022 along with the local Penangites will be able to witness a 688 Drone Light Show programmed by our official Malaysian Drone Partner Drone-Sifu on the eve of Malaysia Day, followed by a 6-Minute Choreographed Musical Firework with Penang Port Cruise Terminal being the Prime Spot to view the spectacle on 15 September at 10.30 pm. WCIT 2022 will also feature the WITSA Global Innovation and Tech Excellence Awards 2022 on 14 September 2022.
