ALOR SETAR, September 28 – Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) is targeting Malay majority and suburban seats to be contested in the 15th General Election (GE15). Deputy Chairman of GTA Sponsors, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said, this is because the coalition is an idea or movement supported by parties, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and Malay individuals.

According to him, the initial target is to place potential candidates who can win in 120 selected seats for Parliament, while the number of seats in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) is still under discussion. Automatically the Malay areas that are targeted by the GTA include suburbs that have mixed votes. This means, there are also many seats that we most likely will not contest.

Mukhriz who is also the President of the Pejuang Tanah Air Party (Pejuang) said GTA will offer a number of candidates who will contest in GE15 but the number will only be finalized when the election date is announced. We do not intend to contest the 222 parliamentary seats or all the state assembly seats in the states that will also be dissolved at the same time as the parliament. There are only certain seats that we can offer GTA candidates.

So far, the estimated number of parliamentary seats is approximately 120, only state assembly seats have not been determined yet. The reason is that we are not sure how many states will dissolve, including in Kedah we are not sure. You have to wait, he said.
