KAJANG, November 24 – The newly appointed Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced Monday (28 December 2022) as a public holiday. This was announced by him at his first press conference as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia, here on Thursday. “I have discussed with Chief Secretary Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong because I have already promised to give leave and move it to next Monday,” he said.

Anwar finished taking the oath at Balai Singgahsana Kecil, Istana Negara in the capital, at 5.30pm. The Ceremony of Awarding the Letter of Appointment and the Ceremony of Taking the Oath of Office and Loyalty and the Oath of Secrecy, completed in the presence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the King Queen, Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandaria .

Earlier, the Istana Negara in a statement informed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah that he agreed to appoint the PH Chairman as the 10th Prime Minister. It also ended the puzzle after five days of Parliament being in a deadlock following the 15th General Election (GE15) last Saturday, which saw no party succeeding in getting a 50 percent majority of the contested seats.
