GEORGE TOWN, December 29 – Tech Dome Penang organised the 2nd Penang Digital Literacy Camp from 09th to 22nd December 2022. This camp is an important eye opener for students where the technology gives them fast access to knowledge, rapid learning, and engaging ways to apply what they’ve learned. It gives the greatest exposure to introduce students to digital technology and provide them with hands-on experience with digital technologies, as well prepare them for future jobs. We hope to make the public awareness on the importance of the Digital Literacy.

17 amazing tracks were induced into the whole programme for both primary and secondary students, covering Introduction to Canva, Scratch Programming, Game Design with Scratch, Introduction to Google Workplace, Introduction to Roblox, Introduction to Minecraft, MadeCode for Micro:bit, Python Programming, AI Chatbot, Machine Learning, Web Design with WordPress, 3D Character Design with Blender, Data Science : Data Analytics with Tableau, Cyber Security, Effective Presentation, Mobile App Maker Master and IoT Cloud Computing Smart system using Arduino.

We ran the program in hybrid mode, face to face and learned virtually. We have a total of 1,955 students taking part in PDLC for free. Majority are from Penang, as well as from 8 other states and federal territory which include Perlis, Perak, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Sarawak and Terengganu. We also bus-in 280 of under-privilege students from 7 rural schools in 5 districts to learn Scratch program. They are SK Guar Perahu, SK Permatang Janggus, SK Tasek Permai, SJKC Chung Hwa 2 Prai, SJKC Beng Teik Cawangan, SJKC Yang Cheng and SJKC True Light.

This PDLC program is endorsed by Penang State Government, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, MDEC as well as jabatan-jabatan pendidikan negeri-negeri. The main sponsors include the Chief Minister of Penang office, Analog Devices Malaysia, Greatech Technology Berhad and Motorola Solutions Malaysia. Co- organisers of this program are Forward School, UOW Malaysia KDU, SwissPac Edu, Caritech and CodeKidz working hand in hand to make this event happen successfully.
