GEORGE TOWN, January 11 – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has completed 80 percent of the distribution of seats in six states in the face of the State Election (PRN) which is expected to be held in the middle of this year. The Deputy Chairman of the PN, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said, the discussion on the distribution of seats for the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) had been made before the 15th General Election (GE15). According to him, the discussion went on for a long time and became the basis of discussion for PN to face PRN later.
“Actually, before GE15, which is when preparing to face the general election again, we had a direct discussion about the distribution of seats for the Dun. That became the basis of the discussion to face the PRN and it (the discussion) went on for a long time. Whether the decision remains or not, that needs to be seen in the strategy to face the next election,” he said after attending a dialogue session between the PN component parties at the Gerakan Headquarters Penang here on Monday.
The six states that will hold PRN this year are Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. The state governments involved did not dissolve their respective legislatures at the same time as the 15th general election for a number of reasons including the flood season at the end of the year. In the meantime, Abdul Hadi who is also PAS President said that the GE15 wave gave strong support when PN swept the seats in the states he ruled, namely Kelantan and Terengganu.
“The GE15 wave gave strong support to the states when we won big in Kelantan and Terengganu, in Kedah, we only missed one seat. This shows that we have strength. The post mortem we did, we found votes in the state assembly, we won the whole thing. We are confident that this wave will last, especially when the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government that is ruling today is unstable. To say unity is not unity.
“If there is unity, there must be a government with no opposition or the size of the opposition is small and there is no role, then the Unity Government. If half is the opposition, half is (the government), that is not unity. The term is not correct, there are still many unresolved problems, the statements which is not implemented,” he said. In the last GE15, PN won big in several states including Pahang, Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu.
