MANJUNG, January 22 –Vale, one of the world’s leading mining companies today brought cheer to the community by presenting families with festive aid and distributing goodies to members of the community, in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations. Vale curated a special package of necessities valued at MYR150 each, for 100 socioeconomically vulnerable families celebrating at Kg Koh, Sitiawan. Each package comprises dry food items including Ginseng Chicken Herbal Soup, Dry Pan Mee and sauces.

Additionally, Vale will also distribute 40 goodie bags to the Rumah Wawasan Orphanage and Persatuan Kebajikan Warga Tua, Manjung (old folks home) which includes cookies and flavoured teasOverall, Vale’s Chinese New Year social contribution will benefit 140 members of the community, involving social investments of close to MYR17,000. Leonardo Paiva, CEO of Vale in Malaysia said: “The festive season provides us with an opportunity to enhance our engagement with the society, in line with our commitment to support the holistic community development in Manjung.

Kampung Koh is one of the oldest settlements in Manjung, and the community contributes significantly towards the unique cultural and social fabric of the district. We are glad to be able to engage with them this time around, as part of the larger Vale Bersama Manjung initiative”. The ‘Vale Bersama Manjung’ socioeconomic assistance program for Manjung began in 2020, during the early days of the pandemic. Since then, Vale has contributed close to MYR 2 million to various communities under the program. 

Kg. Koh Sitiawan, the orphanage and old folks’ home are closely located to Vale’s Teluk Rubiah Maritime Terminal (TRMT), Vale’s main iron ore distribution hub in Asia. At TRMT, over 60 percent of the workforce originates from the Manjung district. “We are aware of the difficulties that some families in the village are still facing, three years into the pandemic, so we hope our contributions will help them to prepare for a joyous Chinese New Year celebration,” Paiva concluded.
