
GEORGE TOWN, February 25 – George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) as the Site Manager for George Town Heritage City UNESCO World Heritage Site is excited to learn that YAB Perdana Menteri Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an allocation of a budget of RM50 million to the State of Melaka and Penang for the continuous conservation and management of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in George Town and Melaka.
GTWHI welcomes and thanks the Kerajaan Perpaduan for recognizing the importance in the management and maintenance of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The news boosted our confidence in continuing our passion in promoting the peaceful coexistence and celebration of multicultural heritage in our World Heritage Site. Established by the State Government of Penang since 2010, GTWHI has been tasked with Site Management of George Town Heritage City UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Together with Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP), and advisory bodies from Technical Review Panel (TRP), and the local communities, we have collectively worked in safeguarding both the tangible and living heritage of this city. We await more details from the authorities on this matter. We hope this important resource will be used in the conservation and safeguarding of the Outstanding Universal Values of George Town Heritage City UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the direction of sustainable development.
