KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 – The government has decided to extend individual income tax relief of up to RM8,000 for annual net savings in the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) until 2024. The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, the decision was made after the government heard the concerns voiced by the affected groups. This proposal involves the loss of Government revenue of around 250 million ringgit per year and benefits more than 400,000 taxpayers.

“This number is not the number of the B40 group… these are those with a more modest income but it means for education, that’s first. Secondly, education spending is increasing, that’s why we are giving this flexibility,” he said.
