PUTRAJAYA, April 19 – YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming (YB KM), Minister of Local Government Development held an engagement session with ambassadors and representatives of foreign embassies in Malaysia from countries in the Asia Pacific region which took place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on March 20, 2023 recently. This event, which was held for the first time, involved YB KM since he was appointed as the Minister of Local Government Development on 3 December 2022.

This event, which was also attended by representatives from various government agencies including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra), is a forum to realize Malaysia’s wishes member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlement Program (UN Habitat). This engagement session is an initiative and effort of the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) to gain support for Malaysia to vote on the Executive Board as well as strengthen relations and cooperation with member countries of the United Nations (UN), especially in the context of sustainable urbanism .

According to YB KM, “Malaysia intends to be one of the member countries representing the Asia Pacific region to join the UN-Habitat Executive Board during the elections to be held in Nairobi, Kenya in June 2023 to put the country at the forefront of the sustainable and universal urbanization agenda on the stage global.

In addition, this wish will strengthen Malaysia’s role in making the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda a success, especiall Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) among others, which is a reference at the global level as the direction of national development through policies and initiatives planned by KPKT. This ceremony was also attended by YBhg. Datuk M Noor Azman bin Taib, KPKT Secretary General; YBhg. Datuk Saidatu Akhma binti Hassan, Deputy Secretary General (Planning and Sustainable Environment) as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and agencies.
