
KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 – In a recent address, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, emphasized the importance of not transforming religious matters into polemics and political disputes. His Majesty called for respect towards Islam as the Federal religion, as stated in Article 3 of the Federal Constitution, and the position of the Malay Rulers as the Head of the Islamic Religion. While Islam holds a prominent position, Al-Sultan Abdullah highlighted that other religions can coexist peacefully and harmoniously.
The spirit of tolerance and acceptance among Malaysians is the foundation of the nation’s strength. His Majesty stressed the need to discard divisive rhetoric and unite to lead the country towards a brighter future. The statement was made during the celebration of His Majesty’s Official Birthday, which was broadcast on local television. Al-Sultan Abdullah expressed gratitude for the opportunity to commemorate this significant day alongside the people of Malaysia.
This year marks the fifth year of His Majesty and Queen Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, celebrating this meaningful occasion. Installed as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on July 30, 2019, Al-Sultan Abdullah also expressed appreciation for celebrating his Official Birthday in a stable and pleasant country. He highlighted the peaceful and smooth process of the 15th General Election and the formation of the Federal Government last year, affirming that Malaysia’s democratic practices remain strong pillars for stability and harmony.
His Majesty emphasized that Malaysia possesses great potential to become a developed and respected country. The nation’s peace, diverse resources, quality human capital, and indomitable spirit contribute to its strength. Al-Sultan Abdullah acknowledged the Malaysian people’s commitment to peace, harmony, and unity, as well as their acceptance of diversity with complete tolerance. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong noted Malaysia’s achievements on the global stage across various fields, shaping the regional and global geopolitical landscape.
His Majesty and the Raja Permaisuri Agong expressed gratitude for the congratulations, memories, and prayers offered, which serve as their strength in ensuring fair and equitable protection for all Malaysians. Concluding his address, Al-Sultan Abdullah extended gratitude to the government, administration, civil servants, and security forces for their contributions to the well-being and peace of the country.
His Majesty called upon national leadership to serve wholeheartedly and enhance efforts in establishing an efficient, people-friendly, and integrity-driven national administration system to safeguard the future of the people and the nation.
